From VR to Telepresence: Advanced Research at Nile University

Researchers at Nile University, in collaboration with Leibniz Universität Hannover, are advancing immersive technologies through the development of a hardware accelerator for 3D point cloud compression, enabling efficient processing of large-scale spatial data for VR and telepresence applications.
This research is conducted by Hisham Elrefae, a Master’s student in the Microelectronics System Design (MSD) Program at Nile University, under the supervision of Dr. Lobna A. Said. The project is funded by the Arab-German Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), reflecting the strong research environment of NU’s School of Engineering & Applied Sciences and its commitment to impactful international collaboration.
