Nile University Biotechnology Students Win First Place in Environmental Projects

A graduation project from Nile University’s School of Biotechnology won first place in the Environmental Projects category at the Career Innovation Summit 2026, held under the supervision of Egypt’s Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

The summit brought together graduation projects from universities across Egypt in a competition designed to assess student ideas and connect them with industry needs and real-world applications.

Project title: Enhanced Textile Azo Dye Biodegradation Using ZIF-8 and ZIF-8/N-CQD Immobilized Bacterial Systems

The project explores an innovative approach combining microbial biotechnology and nanotechnology to enhance the biodegradation of azo dyes from the textile industry. These persistent pollutants are difficult to remove from industrial wastewater using conventional treatment methods, making their remediation an important environmental challenge.

The participating projects were evaluated by a committee of specialists and academics. The competition highlighted the value of turning graduation projects into practical, innovative solutions relevant to industry and the job market.

Nile University congratulates the School of Biotechnology students and everyone who contributed to the project’s supervision and development on this outstanding achievement. Their work demonstrates how research and innovation can help address environmental challenges and create meaningful impact for society and industry.
