It was a great pleasure to host our dear colleague and friend, Arch. Kareem Ibrahim, CEO of Takween Integrated Community Development, for an inspiring lecture on his award-winning project:
“Revitalization of Historic Esna: A Model for Heritage Safeguarding and Sustainable Development,” winner of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2023–2025.
The Architecture and Urban Design Program at Nile University (ARUD) welcomed Arch. Kareem as he shared a powerful presentation showcasing how heritage conservation can become a catalyst for sustainable development. He highlighted the revitalization of 15 heritage sites in Esna, successful capacity-building programs involving over 430 community members, and pioneering women-led initiatives that have strengthened the local economy.
The lecture held on Wednesday, November 26, at the university’s main auditorium provided students and faculty with invaluable insights into community-led development, urban conservation, and the transformative impact of architecture on local communities.
A heartfelt thank you to Arch. Kareem Ibrahim for enriching our students’ learning experience and shedding light on one of Egypt’s most inspiring heritage revitalization models.
