Empowering Future Biotechnologists: International Academic Visit to the University of Hertfordshire
Students from the School of Biotechnology, Nile University recently participated in an international academic field visit to the University of Hertfordshire, hosted in collaboration with GAF. The visit was made possible through the Food and Agriculture Model (FA Model) at Nile University, which continues to expand experiential learning opportunities and global scientific exposure for Nile University students.
During the visit, students were hosted by Dr. Laila Ziko, whose work focuses on microbial genomics and metabolism, particularly in the discovery of novel bioactive compounds. As part of the session, antimicrobial resistance was highlighted as an example of an impending global health threat, and students were introduced to how microbial research can support the search for new antimicrobial solutions. Her expertise provided students with valuable insight into how fundamental microbial science can drive innovation in biotechnology and global health preparedness.
The trip reflects the FA Model’s role in bridging academic training with international research environments, empowering students to engage directly with leading scientists and cutting-edge technologies. Nile University looks forward to strengthening research and educational collaborations with international partners following this successful visit.
