Professor Gamal M. ElMasry is the Associate Vice President for Research and a professor in the School of Water Science and Food Security. He graduated from Suez Canal University with BSc. and MSc degrees in Agricultural Engineering, followed by a Master of Engineering in Environmental Science and Technology from the International Institute for Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IHE), the Netherlands. His PhD study was a joint research program between Suez Canal University and McGill University (Canada) funded by the Ministry of Higher Education. Prof. ElMasry had many research positions in various countries (e.g. Norway, Ireland, Japan, England, France, and Spain). His pioneering research has contributed to several areas, including NIR spectroscopy, imaging spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, fluorescence imaging, multivariate analysis, neural network applications and atmospheric ionization mass spectrometry.
Prof. ElMasry was named by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science among the top 1% of researchers worldwide and as one of the highly cited researchers in the field of agricultural sciences for seven consecutive years (2017 - 2023). Moreover, Prof. ElMasry appeared in all versions of the "World's Top 2% Scientists" list issued by Stanford University and Elsevier from its first version to the most recent one issued in 2025. Prof. ElMasry is a member of the Permanent Scientific Committee of Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering Discipline for the Promotion of Professors and Associate Professors of the Supreme Council of Universities in its last two rounds (14 and 15 promotion rounds).
Prof. ElMasry was awarded the State Award for Excellence in Advanced Technological Sciences in 2017 and the State Award of Appreciation in Advanced Technological Sciences in 2023, granted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).
