Prof. Dina K. Shehayeb

Dina Shehayeb is an architect/urban designer, professor, currently Founder and Program Director of the Architecture and Urban Design program and Executive Director of the Architecture & Urban - Design & Research Excellence Center ARU-DREC at Nile University, Egypt. She earned her Ph.D. from Univeristy of Wisconsin Milwaukee, USA in human aspects in urban design. Employed for 35+ years in the Housing and Building National Research Centre in Egypt before joining Nile University in 2017, she also led her private firm Shehayeb CONSULT (1998 – 2022). She consults in community-based research, design and planning projects and the development of guidelines. She specializes in people-centred, research-based design, participatory processes and works on bridging the gap between the physical environment and its socio-cultural and psychological dimensions. She served as a consultant and advisory committee member with UN-Habitat from 2004-2018 and other international organizations. She joined the Union for the Mediterraen UFM as Advisory Board member in the Architecture and Planning Education network (2021-current). She has 40+ publications in scientific journals, conference proceedings, international reports and books. She is an editorial board member in 2 international scientific journals, and supervises academic theses and dissertations.
