Dr. Essam H. Roushdy was appointed as Acting President of Nile University on July 13th, 2025. With a distinguished career spanning national and international roles in academia, industry, and leadership, Dr. Roushdy exemplifies visionary leadership in the engineering field. His unwavering commitment to academic and institutional excellence makes him a valuable asset to Nile University.

Meet the Acting President

Dr. Essam Roushdy has been a cornerstone of Nile University since 2016. He currently serves as Vice President for Development and Society, in addition to being a Professor and Director of the Industrial Engineering Program at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Dr. Roushdy holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (1980) and an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (1975), both from Purdue University, USA, and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt (1971). His academic journey includes key positions at Qatar University, the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), USA, before joining NU.

In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Roushdy held senior roles at the Housing and Development Bank (HDB), Cairo International Bank (CIB) in Uganda, the National Real Estate & Investment Company, and the Gulf Research & Development Company (GRD), contributing to long-term planning and strategic development in the banking and real estate sectors.

And with over twenty-five technical publications, a strong record in institutional planning, and leadership of multiple academic and strategic initiatives, Dr. Roushdy has played a significant role in shaping Nile University’s development and educational offerings.

Acting President’s Message

"Nile University was founded with a mission to drive innovation, excellence in education, research, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. Over the years, the university has upheld its core values with perseverance, dedication, and a progressive vision that continue to shape its path forward.

Since joining NU, I have been honored to contribute to its growth—from developing new academic programs and leading strategic plans to strengthening partnerships and institutional advancement. I have also had the privilege of serving as a member of both the University Council and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Council, in addition to chairing and participating in 12 university specialized standing committees—efforts that highlight my ongoing commitment to the university’s progress and advancement at both the academic and organizational levels.

As we start a new phase in our journey, we remain dedicated to enabling our students, researchers, faculty, and staff to work together, drive innovation, and make meaningful contributions to society."
