Lab Specialist

Job Summary

Lab Specialist prepares chemicals, laboratory equipment, and student drawers for teaching labs. Maintains laboratory facilities and the stockroom for experiments. Plans laboratory exercises in collaboration with faculty. Tests and conduct experiments, exercises, and demonstrations. Provides technical assistance to staff and teaching assistants regarding experimental preparations and procedures. Ensures compliance with health and safety standards for laboratory operations.

Job Description

  • Prepares an adequate quantity and quality of chemicals for experiments in a timely manner.
  • Prepares, issues, and replaces laboratory equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and issues student drawers.
  • Responds to technical questions, questions related to stock solutions, and the use of equipment by staff and teaching assistants.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment inventories, orders supplies and equipment for the laboratory, and keeps the stockroom organized.
  • Maintains teaching equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and efficient performance.
  • Serves as the safety officer for the teaching laboratory; stays in the lab to oversee safety during scheduled teaching time.
  • Plans support for laboratory experiments, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety regulations; assists in troubleshooting and correcting experimental errors.
  • Develops quality standards and programs, maintains the quality of the stockroom, and
  • ensures compliance with safety, environmental regulations, and other applicable requirements.
  • Maintains student breakage card records and submits a list of charges and refunds each semester.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • +3 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid laboratory technician license.
  • Experience in laboratory operations and/or procedures.
  • Experience in Chemical preparations and dilutions.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
